Hey boo,
Sometimes as first time mothers we do things we shouldn’t be doing because our parents have the experience and we don’t.
Before giving birth, I had it all planned out, I would exclusively breastfeed my baby for six months and slowly start introducing her to food afterwards because I wanted to do everything by the book(like any other first time mom plans). Then I gave birth and my baby wasn’t latching and she would just cry non stop, doctors kept telling me to keep breastfeeding, which I just felt was torture because my nipples were in so much pain. My mother being the old school mother she is went and bought Nan formula milk, and so it was bye-bye exclusive breastfeeding.
A month in, and sleepless nights were all we knew even with the formula milk and my expressed breastmilk. So my mother decided that this child was not sleeping because she is not getting enough food. At one month, my pooor baby girl was having soft porridge for breakfast and supper. Doctors usually advise against it. I could never tell you the exact reason why they they advise against it, I did however notice when they started making me feed her foods like cerelec before she would be constipated and so I stopped giving her that unless we were going out and would be gone for the whole day.
It’s funny now when I look back because I used to get so angry at how my mother and baby Daddy’s mother were ruining my journey of being a mother but now I’m realizing that sometimes the things that doctors advise against are not necessarily things that could harm your child. I’m not necessarily saying do those things because doctors do have a reason why they advise against them it’s just that in my case there were no dramatic changes that were harming my baby girl.
When did you introduce your baby to solids? And did you face any challenges along the way?
